Reach Out
A PLACE FOR SERVICE
Just as Jesus Christ came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister …” we accept our responsibility to reach out in service to others. This applies both within the church family and outside our fellowship.
MUSIC MINISTRY
Under the direction of Mr. Bill Robinson, our choir performs during our Sunday Worship services as well as for special programs including our Christmas and Easter services. Our choir welcomes all those who would like to join this special ministry. The choir rehearses on Tuesday nights, 7-8:30 p.m.
MISSIONS & MINISTRIES
Through American Baptist Churches USA, we support missionaries all over the world by our weekly giving (in Haiti, Japan and South Africa). In addition, we take special offerings for America for Christ (domestic aid), the World Mission Offering (mission outreach), One Great Hour of Sharing (disaster relief) and support for retired ministers and missionaries.
Closer to home, we support the local food pantry, CHIPS (Christians Helping in Park Slope) and we have initiated a project to support immigrant nannies in the area.
HAITI HOSPITAL APPEAL
GBC is one of the part of our denomination’s local effort to support the construction of a hospital in Quartier-Morin, Haiti, a poor and underserved area in desperate need of medical services. Our fundraising efforts (including a concert by the Legendary Park Slope Soul Patrol) have gone toward building and furnishing the hospital’s surgical theater and recovery clinic.
SAMARITAN’S PURSE/ OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PROJECT
Each fall, GBC participates in Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Project, in which members and friends are asked to fill gift wrapped shoeboxes with small gift items for children. These boxes are then shipped to impoverished children all over the world.
