Jay Brown, Sr. – Music Director
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jay Brown, Sr. has had a passion for music from an early age. He first fell in love with music in junior high school when he learned to play the trumpet, and soon began playing any instrument he could find. At the age of 16, Jay taught himself how to play the piano and began playing for his father’s church. Ten years later, he found himself on stage in Poland recording a live album, and knew that he had found his calling. As a musician, Jay is known for his versatility. He has played, in a professional capacity, styles ranging from Southern Gospel, Jazz, R&B and traditional Quartet, and many others in between.
At the age of 18, Jay gave his life to the Lord and has been playing for the glory of God ever since. In 1988, he was ordained as a minister of the Gospel, becoming an elder in the United Church of Jesus Christ. Before coming to Greenwood, he was the Music Director and Worship Leader at United Church of Jesus Christ in the Bronx. His highest joy has been ushering congregants into the presence of God. Jay is currently the director of two bands, “The Tones of Joy” and “Sound Check,” both of which perform Gospel.
